 Biography

Stephen Forman, M.D., joined City of Hope’s Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation program in 1978, subsequently becoming the chair in 1987. He is the principal investigator for a $15.2 million, five-year National Cancer Institute (NCI) bone marrow transplantation program project grant and principal investigator of a five-year, $11.5 million Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) grant by the NCI for translational research studies for Hodgkin’s and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Dr. Forman is also the program leader for COH’s NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Hematologic Malignancies Program.

An international leader in the field of hematologic malignancy and bone marrow transplantation, Dr. Forman is co-editor of Thomas’ Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation, a definitive textbook for scientists and health care professionals.

Prior to joining City of Hope in 1978, Dr. Forman earned his bachelor’s degree, cum laude, in philosophy from St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland, and his medical degree with honors from the University of Southern California. He interned and served his residency in internal medicine at Harbor General-University of California Los Angeles Hospital, after which he completed fellowships in hematology at Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center and in medical oncology at City of Hope.

Dr. Forman is a member of several national organizations and also serves on the editorial boards of many scientific journals. He was recently appointed to the Strategic Planning Advisory Committee of the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine.
