Miley Cyrus’ music makes a difference in cancer research, treatment

Fans nationwide have one more reason to cheer for their favorite performers, Miley Cyrus and her musical alter ego, Hannah Montana: A whirlwind concert tour by the teen star has raised $800,000 to benefit City of Hope.

By the time the concert tour closes, organizers expect nearly $1 million to go toward cancer research, treatment and education at City of Hope. The Music and Entertainment Industry’s 2007 Spirit of Life® honoree Bob Cavallo, chair and chief executive officer of Disney Music Group, orchestrated the campaign, which has dedicated $1 to City of Hope for every concert ticket sold.

The wildly popular concert series kicked off Oct. 18, and 14 dates were added to the original sold-out 55-date tour. The “Best of Both Worlds Tour” has been one of the most successful concert tours of 2007.

Special guest Jonas Brothers were featured in the tour through Jan. 9. On Jan. 11, platinum recording artists Aly & AJ joined as special guests through Jan. 24. A special guest for the remaining tour dates soon will be anounced.

Cyrus, a 15-year-old multiplatinum singer, previously supported City of Hope by visiting its pediatric cancer patients with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, and performing at its annual pediatric picnic. “I feel fortunate to be able to help support City of Hope in its mission of curing cancer and other life-threatening diseases and in raising awareness of childhood cancers,” Cyrus said.
