Collaboration is an essential element of translational research, both internally through a multidisciplinary team approach to research and care, and externally through partnerships with other institutions.

City of Hope works with medical and academic centers around the country and internationally on research studies to advance our understanding about cancer, its causes, prevention and treatment. Additionally, our Office of Technology Licensing enables us to work with partnering companies to help develop and bring our scientific discoveries to market for the benefit of all patients.

5/9/2012 - City of Hope researchers develop potential cure for advanced type 1 diabetes in laboratory

City of Hope researchers developed a combination therapy to treat late-stage type 1 diabetes that appears to offer a potential lifetime cure for the disease without toxic side effects. The laboratory study is published in the May 9 edition of Science Translational Medicine.

4/16/2012 - City of Hope researchers show how cancerous stem cells manipulate their environment to enhance their own growth in chronic myelogenous leukemia

City of Hope researchers have shown how leukemia stem cells hijack the bone marrow where they live, helping them to proliferate, potentially outlast powerful therapy and return to cause cancer.

4/10/2012 - National Cancer Institute renews prestigious SPORE grant for lymphoma research at City of Hope

The grant extends the NCI’s recognition of City of Hope’s Specialized Program of Research Excellence for lymphoma (Lymphoma SPORE), which the NCI first funded in 2004.

4/5/2012 - City of Hope physicians named to “America’s Top Doctors for Cancer” list

Twenty-five City of Hope physicians are featured in the recently published seventh edition of the book, “America’s Top Doctors for Cancer.” The book is a consumer guide to the nation’s top cancer specialists. It includes profiles of more than 2,000 doctors in 49 cancer specialties and subspecialties.

4/3/2012 - Researchers find investigational drug weakens cancer cell defenses, boosts efficacy of immunotherapy

City of Hope researchers have discovered that the investigational drug brivanib helps to reset that microenvironment — and make anti-cancer immunotherapies more effective. Brivanib targets a tumor’s ability to build new blood vessels, cutting off its supply line.
