| Some chemotherapy can make fingerprints disappear. Capecitabine and several other anticancer drugs can cause a condition called hand-foot syndrome in some patients. Symptoms include chronic inflammation of the palms or soles of the feet leading to skin peeling, bleeding and ulcers or blisters. In some patients, this can cause the fingerprints to change or disappear, which may cause problems for patients who travel, especially internationally. Some oncologists recommend that people undergoing treatment with drugs that might cause hand-foot syndrome, especially those who travel, carry a letter from their physician explaining the condition. The American Society of Clinical Oncology has more information on hand-foot syndrome including how to manage or prevent it. |
